TO PRE-CHECK OR NOT TO PRE-CHECK?

You may have heard about the new pre-screening program that the TSA launched a few months ago in approximately 35 select US airports the following Mori Luggage & Gifts markets…Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa and Charlotte. For frequent travelers, this was welcome news. For those travelers not familiar with the program, we’ve compiled some information from the Travel Security Administation’s website below –  tsa.gov

HOW IT WORKS
TSA Pre™ is a pre-screening initiative that makes risk assessments on passengers who voluntarily participate prior to their arrival at the airport checkpoint.

TSA Pre™ includes U.S. citizens who are select frequent travelers of participating airlines (Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, US Airways) or members of existing Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveler programs including Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI programs. As of November 15, 2012, Canadian citizens traveling domestically in the United States who are members of NEXUS are also qualified to participate in TSA Pre✓™.

If TSA determines a passenger is eligible for expedited screening, information is embedded in the barcode of the passenger’s boarding pass. TSA reads the barcode at designated checkpoints and the passenger may be referred to a lane where they will undergo expedited screening, which could include no longer removing the following items:

  • Shoes
  • 3-1-1 compliant bag from carry-on
  • Laptop from bag
  • Light outerwear/jacket
  • Belt

In addition, passengers 12 and younger are allowed through TSA Pre✓™ lanes with eligible passengers.

TSA will always incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

So, if you are eligible to enroll in the PreCheck program, would you do it?
